Harbor City Travel & Tours Announces Inaugural Donation to South Animal Care and Adoption Center
Melbourne, FL, March 23, 2009 -- Lost, abandoned or abused animals in Brevard County will have a brighter life this year thanks to local travel agency, Harbor City Travel & Tours. As part of the company's commitment to give back to the community, manager Joyce Hunter recently presented a $100 check to South Animal Care and Adoption Center. The employees of Harbor City Travel chose the center because they appreciate the shelter's commitment to building lifelong bonds between people and animals through education and community outreach programs.
Mary Berley, supervisor of South Animal Care and Adoption Center, graciously accepted the $100 donation on behalf of the center. The monies will be used specifically for meeting the needs of animals that would otherwise require humane euthanasia.
The donated money was raised at a Bucket List Social event held by Harbor City Travel on March 11, 2009, at Makoto Seafood & Steakhouse. Several local restaurants, including Carrabba's Italian Grill, Hong Kong Super Buffet, Indian Flavors, Makoto Seafood & Steakhouse, Meg O' Malley's Restaurant & Irish Pub, Outback Steakhouse, Rancho Viejo and Skewers Mediterranean Grille, donated gift certificates for a raffle with proceeds to benefit the South Animal Care and Adoption Center. Another Bucket List Social event expected to raise additional monies is planned for October 21, 2009.
"With times being tough right now, many are turning in pets that they can no longer afford to keep," says Hunter. "The shelter is trying to provide food and necessities to pet owners so that they can continue to keep their pets with them at home." In addition to monetary contributions, donations of towels, wash rags, plastic cat balls or ping pong balls, hard rubber dog toys, dog houses and tethers are needed to give to less fortunate pet owners.
The South Animal Care and Adoption Center is located in Melbourne, FL, and operated by Brevard County Animal Services and Enforcement. The center is located at 5100 West Eau Gallie Boulevard, about 1/2 mile west of I-95. For more information, visit http://www.petfinder.com/shelters/FL284.html
